Bobby
Bobby- whose weight was a little “wide of the mark”!
The wonderful gentleman Bobby was adopted into our family in July last year. He was being supported by the Southern Golden Retriever Rescue Charity as his owner was unable to continue looking after him.
Bobby was 10years of age and 16kgs overweight. The excess weight was causing strain on his joints, and this together with arthritis was having a significant impact on his mobility. He could only walk for 10 minutes before experiencing discomfort.
We have tremendous faith in our vet Colin and he was our first port of call. He performed a thorough assessment and prescribed pain relief, together with referral to the practice weight clinic. Virbac HPM1 was the recommended food with a target weight of 40kgs.
Over the following weeks, and adhering to the Virbac guidelines, Bobby's weight reduced. I started exercising with Bobby for two 15 minute walks a day.
Bobby has now lost over 14kgs. Kate measured his waist in September last year and it was 84cms. Bobby's waist is now 72cms. I walk him for 15-20 minutes morning and night and he has a 45 minute afternoon walk.
Bobby has done tremendously well. The Virbac food has allowed us to tailor his food and treats easily. I have today collected his first 12kg bag of Virbac Senior as this will be used to maintain his weight for the foreseeable future.
I cannot speak highly enough of the Southern Golden Retriever Rescue Charity and the Vets Practice. They, together with Virbac’s food and a little bit of determination from ourselves, have given Bobby his life back we hope for many years to come.
